The Call to Be a Blessing

The Call to Be a Blessing

Imagine the following scenario: Jesus—the most popular man, the One who performs miracles and brings healing and freedom to the oppressed—is in town. Word of His presence spreads rapidly. Crowds gather, making it difficult even to catch a glimpse of Him. For someone of short stature, the desire to meet Him prompts immediate action: climbing the nearest available tree, seeking only to catch a glimpse of His face or witness a miracle.

In that instant, Jesus' gaze settles upon that man, and His invitation is direct: He wishes to come to his home. What a tremendous blessing it is to welcome Jesus! That encounter brings about such a profound transformation that a desire arises to become a blessing to others—giving half of one's possessions to the poor and making generous restitution for any wrong committed.

Just as in the story of Zacchaeus, knowing Jesus is reason enough to become a channel of blessing to others, utilizing whatever resources and talents are at our disposal. To begin reflecting this reality, consider the following actions:

Praying for others: Interceding for family members, friends, and acquaintances—even for those who have treated us poorly—is a tangible way to offer a blessing.

Using words that affirm and encourage: Expressing gratitude and offering encouragement serves to inspire those around us.

Selfless generosity: Sharing with those in need—providing food, donating clothing, or offering support tailored to the needs of others.

Seeking the common good: Acting without expecting anything in return, prioritizing the collective well-being of your community.

Reflecting the character of Christ: Practicing forgiveness and seeking reconciliation in personal relationships.

Being a blessing transcends the material realm; it entails offering hope and light during times of difficulty.
